The four-part series In the Footsteps of Alexander the Great (check local times, PBS) follows British historian Michael Wood as he retraces the route that expanded the Greek empire, teaching us about the life and times of Alexander along the way. The new cable movie Labor of Love (9 p.m., Lifetime) sounds like "The Object of My Affection" with some minor changes. Marcia Gay Harden plays an artist in her 30s who wants a baby; David Marshall Grant is her gay friend, who offers to help. We Were There: CBS News at 50 (10 p.m., CBS) looks back at the big news stories of the past 50 years, with comments from Walter Cronkite, Dan Rather, Ed Bradley, Leslie Stahl and others.

On an hour-long Caroline in the City (9 p.m., NBC), Richard's reluctance to quit his job with Caroline leads his wife to insist on couples therapy. Garry Shandling has a cameo. 20/20 (9 p.m., ABC) reports on the diary of Unabomber Ted Kaczynski. On The Practice (10 p.m., ABC), Berluti's priest is accused of murdering a teenage boy.
