And the hype machine hits overdrive: The X-Files Movie Special (8 p.m., Fox) goes behind the scenes of the feature film (opening Friday). The special, hosted by Martin Landau (who co-stars in the movie), also features interviews with Gillian Anderson, David Duchovny and Chris Carter, clips from the movie, mash notes from "X-Files" fans Rosie O'Donnell (is there anything she isn't a fan of?), Stephen King, William Gibson and Melissa Etheridge, and a performance by Sting, who appears on the movie soundtrack. ABC counter-programs the "X-Files" extravaganza with a prime-time episode of General Hospital (8 p.m., ABC). Jeff Foxworthy hosts the Music City News Country Awards (9 p.m., Nashville Network). Performers include Vince Gill, LeAnn Rimes, Trisha Yearwood and the Lynns. Dream Machines (9 p.m. EDT/10 PDT, History Channel), a five-part series about classic cars and motorcycles of the 20th century, begins with the story of Harley-Davidson.
On a rerun of Everybody Loves Raymond (8:30 p.m., CBS), everyone except Ray buys an extravagant birthday gift for Ray's dad. Della Reese is profiled on a new Biography (8 p.m. EDT/9 PDT, A&E). Ally is arrested for assault in a supermarket on a rerun of Ally McBeal (9 p.m., Fox). Buffy the Vampire Slayer (9 p.m., WB) is back in its old Monday time slot -- as well as its 8 p.m. Tuesday slot -- for a few weeks. In this rerun, Buffy uncovers black magic on the cheerleading squad. Say goodbye to Michael Hayes (10 p.m., CBS); the canceled David Caruso series has its final first-run episode tonight. Dateline (10 p.m., NBC) reports on three women undergoing clinical trials of the new breast cancer drug Herceptin.
