Biography (8 p.m. EDT/9 PDT, A&E) has a new profile of Ernie Kovacs. If you've never heard of this quirky TV pioneer, watch this show and meet the spiritual forerunner of Andy Kaufman, "Monty Python's Flying Circus" and David Letterman. Buffy the Vampire Slayer (8 p.m., WB) reruns the one where kids are being murdered for body parts. On a rerun of NewsRadio (8:30 p.m., NBC), Dave tries to win back his news director's job by using reverse psychology. Dick tries to rehabilitate a criminal on a rerun of 3rd Rock from the Sun (9:30 p.m., NBC). The American Film Institute's 100 greatest films list becomes a weekly series, 100 Years, 100 Movies (10 p.m., TNT), with episodes focusing on particular genres, themes and directors. On NYPD Blue (10 p.m., ABC), Bobby is freaked out by pregnant Diane's risk-taking on the job. It's a rerun. P.O.V. (check local times, PBS) presents "Licensed to Kill," a 1997 documentary by Arthur Dong about anti-gay violence, focusing on convicted murderers of homosexuals. The new series BIOrhythm (10:30 p.m., MTV) profiles pop celebrities using heavy doses of their music as background. Tupac Shakur is the first subject.

Remember little Ricky Schroder from "Silver Spoons"? He's just been signed to fill the Jimmy Smits gap on NYPD Blue. Schroder, now 28, will play a new transfer to the squad ... Homicide: Life on the Street also has a few holes to plug this season, with the departure of Andre Braugher, Michelle Forbes and Reed Diamond. The first new cast member announced is Giancarlo Esposito, who appeared in numerous Spike Lee films and in the short-lived Fox cop comedy Bakersfield P.D. Esposito will play the estranged FBI agent son of Lt. Al Giardello (Yaphet Kotto) ... And Munsters fans, take note: Al "Grandpa" Lewis, 88, won the New York state Green Party nomination for governor.
