The sci-fi series Stargate SG-1 (10 p.m. Fri., Showtime) begins a new season. Richard Dean Anderson stars. Hanson performs on VH1's Storytellers (8 p.m. Sat., VH1) in a benefit for Save the Music, which funds music education programs in schools. Sarah Michelle Gellar hosts a rerun of Saturday Night Live (11:30 p.m. Sat., NBC), with musical guest Portishead. On a rerun of King of the Hill (8:30 p.m. Sun., Fox), Hank and Kahn (hey, that's "Hank" inside out!) screw up big time on a family vacation to Mexico. The X-Files (9 p.m. Sun., Fox) reruns the cyber-themed episode written by William Gibson and Tom Maddox. Another new edition of Storytellers (10 p.m. Sun., VH1) spotlights Ringo Starr.

Ron Eldard plays a WWII GI determined to survive in the new cable movie When Trumpets Fade (9 p.m. Sat., HBO). Frank Whaley and Martin Donovan co-star. The new cable movie A Town Has Turned to Dust (9 p.m. EDT/10 PDT Sat., Sci-Fi Channel) is a remake of a 1958 Rod Serling "Playhouse 90" TV play; this version sets a story of racism and revenge in a bleak futuristic desert outpost. Ron Perlman and Stephen Lang star. Mary Tyler Moore hosts Three Cats From Miami and Other Pet Practitioners (8 p.m. Sun., HBO), which honors animals that help people with special needs. The new documentary 14 Up in America (8 p.m. Sun., Showtime) continues Michael Apted's Americanization of his original British documentary series, which revisits a group of 14-year-olds who were originally profiled at age 7. The second in a series of specials, The Warner Bros. Story: No Guts, No Glory (8 p.m. EDT/8:30 PDT Sun., TNT) looks at some of the stars and films that made the movie studio great. Goldie Hawn hosts. Linda Ellerbee's "Nick News" special Emergency? Ask a Kid (8:30 p.m. Sun., Nickelodeon) shows kids how to respond in a variety of emergency situations.
