BY JOYCE MILLMAN

S P E C I A L S

Paul Newman reprises his pool-shark role from "The Hustler" and Tom Cruise is the new kid on the circuit in Martin Scorsese's 1986 drama The Color of Money (8 p.m., Fox). The new cable movie Nightmare in Big Sky Country (9 p.m., Lifetime) stars Patricia Wettig (Nancy from "thirtysomething") as a Montana judge whose family is threatened when she stands up to a militia leader. Another new cable movie, the poetically titled Every Mother's Worst Fear (9 p.m., USA), stars Cheryl Ladd as a mom who goes on a crusade to find her daughter, who was kidnapped by a guy she met on (here it comes) the Internet.

Giants at Braves (7:30 p.m., ESPN)
Tigers at Angels (10:30 p.m., ESPN)

Sally's discovery of romance novels inspires her to take her relationship with Officer Don to a new level on a rerun of 3rd Rock from the Sun (9 p.m., NBC). Law & Order (10 p.m., NBC) repeats its Unabomber episode; a defendant refuses to plead insanity, to the dismay of his brother, who turned him in in hopes of getting help for him. South Park (10 p.m., Comedy Central) has a new episode featuring the return of Mr. Hankey. And if you have to ask -- don't. The new sketch comedy series The Upright Citizens' Brigade (10:30 p.m., Comedy Central) premieres. The four-person troupe of the title does surreal, interlocking skits.
