S E R I E S

Homicide: Life on the Street (9 p.m. Fri., NBC) reruns last season's two-hour finale, in which Emmy winner Andre Braugher makes his exit from the series, and the lives and careers of several cops are at stake. Saturday Night Live (11:30 p.m. Sat., NBC) repeats its episode saluting the best of Phil Hartman. 60 Minutes (7 p.m. Sun., CBS) launches its new season, as does Touched by an Angel (8 p.m. Sun., CBS). Obsessed with Thomas Edison, Homer decides to become an inventor on the 10th season opener of The Simpsons (8 p.m. Sun., Fox). Lili Taylor plays a blind woman tormented by visions of murder on a rerun of The X-Files (9 p.m. Sun., Fox). Barbara Walters and Diane Sawyer team up for yet another night of 20/20 (9 p.m. Sun., ABC). The Emmy winner for best drama, The Practice (10 p.m. Sun., ABC), reruns an episode in which Bobby defends a teen who murdered his mother and Eugene soul-searches after getting a murder conviction overturned.


S P E C I A L S

A Barbara Walters special (8 p.m. Sat., ABC) reruns past interviews with Will Smith, Jim Carrey and Kim Basinger. Larry King Meets 'ER' (8 p.m. Sat., TNT) in a 90-minute special featuring interviews with cast members, a look behind the scenes and viewer call ins. The occasion? TNT is now showing "ER" reruns every night. Meredith Vieira and Boomer Esiason host the Miss America Pageant (9 p.m. Sat., ABC), which this year is supposed to highlight the transformation of Miss America from beauty queen to social activist. In a bathing suit. Sharon Stone will be on hand to receive the 1998 "Miss America Woman of Achievement Award." The new cable movie The Inspectors (8 p.m. Sun., Showtime) stars Louis Gossett Jr. and Jonathan Silverman as U.S. postal inspectors on the trail of a mail bomber. Filmmakers Jonathan Stack and Liz Garbus won the grand jury prize at the 1998 Sundance Film Festival for their documentary The Farm: Life Inside Angola Prison (9 p.m. EDT/10 PDT Sun., A&E), a look at a year in the life of the notorious maximum security state pen in Louisiana. Part Two airs Monday.
