N E W    S H O W S

Faith Ford is rewarded with a sitcom of her own, Maggie Winters (8:30 p.m., CBS), after toiling all those years in the supporting cast of "Murphy Brown." She plays a woman who moves back to her hometown after her marriage fails. The cast includes Shirley Knight as her mother and Clea Lewis ("Ellen") as her new boss. The romantic comedy-drama To Have and to Hold (9 p.m., CBS) stars Moira Kelly as a feminist public defender married to a conservative cop (Jason Beghe). In case you missed it last night, WB is repeating the premiere of Felicity (9 p.m., WB). The Secret Lives of Men (9:30 p.m., ABC) is a sitcom (created by Susan Harris of "Golden Girls" fame) about three divorced guys trying to get over their women problems. Peter Gallagher, Bradley Whitford and Mitch Rouse star.

Great Performances (check local times, PBS) presents "Carnegie Hall Opening Night 1998," featuring Michael Tilson Thomas conducting the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra in a George Gershwin 100th birthday program.


S E R I E S

The Nanny (8 p.m., CBS) has its season premiere; so does Dharma & Greg (8 p.m., ABC). On Party of Five (9 p.m., Fox), Charlie finds out the sex of the baby, Julia finds social life at Stanford difficult and Sarah tries to reconnect with her birth mother. The doctors deal with the casualties of a terrorist nerve gas attack on the season opener of Chicago Hope (10 p.m., CBS).
