S E R I E S

On the season opener of Dawson's Creek (8 p.m., WB), Dawson and Joey face the fallout from their kiss, while Pacey is captivated by the new girl in town. 3rd Rock from the Sun (9 p.m., NBC) opens its new season with Mary promoted to dean of the college. Jon Lovitz joins the cast of NewsRadio (9:30 p.m., NBC) as an oft-fired newsman named Max Louis. The cops and prosecutors deal with a horrific hate crime on Law & Order (10 p.m., NBC). There's a benefit concert to help debt-ridden Chef on South Park (10 p.m., Comedy Central).


N E W    S H O W S

The action series Seven Days (8 p.m., UPN) opens with a two-hour episode introducing troubled ex-CIA agent Frank Parker (Jonathan LaPaglia), who is recruited for a highly classified mission: Using UFO technology, he's supposed to travel back in time to prevent various events from happening. Shannen Doherty returns in Aaron Spelling's witchcraft comedy-drama Charmed (9 p.m., WB), about three sisters (Doherty, Alyssa Milano and Holly Marie Combs) with unusual powers.
