S E R I E S

A three-part look at the country music business begins tonight on Profiles (8 p.m. EST/9 PST, Bravo) with a report on how three women -- Reba McEntire, Mindy McCready and the late Tammy Wynette -- handled music biz politics in their climb to the top. On Ally McBeal (9 p.m., Fox), Elaine's boyfriend (guest John Ritter) shows interest in Ally. Natasha Gregson Wagner also guests. On a new Everybody Loves Raymond (9 p.m., CBS), Debra brings up the "v" word -- vasectomy. The Raymond rerun (9:30 p.m.) is a classic: Ray's caught in the middle when Marie ruins Debra's Tupperware party. Mr. Show (Midnight, HBO) begins its fourth season. What is "Mr. Show"? OK, one more time: It's the greatest sketch comedy since "The Ben Stiller Show." It's the '90s answer to "Monty Python." It's a completely bizarre, amazing piece of work. Bob Odenkirk and David Cross star. Watch this and I'll shut up.

As a prelude to John Glenn's Oct. 29 Space Shuttle mission, the three hour documentary Return to Orbit (8 p.m., Discovery Channel) chronicles the highlights of America's space program, including Glenn's historic 1962 ride into Earth's orbit. Walter Cronkite hosts. Haunted History (10 p.m., History Channel) leads up to Halloween with a week-long series touring supposedly haunted sites around the U.S.
