S P E C I A L S

Forrest Gump (8 p.m., ABC) takes up ABC's whole prime-time schedule tonight. Six Oscars, Tom Hanks, life is like a box of chocolates, yada, yada, yada. Kristi Yamaguchi, Nancy Kerrigan, Philippe Candeloro, Michael Weiss and other skating stars are scheduled to wing it in Improv-Ice (8 p.m., USA), a program of improvised routines. So when they fall down, they can say, "I meant to do that!" Big-band singer Monica Mancini, the daughter of the late Henry Mancini, performs her father's songs in Monica Mancini ... On the Record (check local times, PBS). Bacharach: One Amazing Night (check local times, PBS) is a tribute concert that originally aired on cable. Burt Bacharach plays piano, conducts his orchestra and reminisces about some of his favorite numbers, which are sung before a New York audience by Elvis Costello, Chrissie Hynde, Sheryl Crow, Barenaked Ladies and Dionne Warwick, among others. (Note: While a few PBS affiliates are airing these specials tonight, most will run the Mancini show on Dec. 7 and the Bacharach on Dec. 9. Check local listings.)


S E R I E S

Fox Files (9 p.m., Fox) has a sequel to a September report on crystal meth, which includes a jailhouse interview with a Chicago addict. ER (10 p.m., NBC) reruns the episode in which the ER is threatened by a toxic chemical spill. 48 Hours (10 p.m., CBS) has a scheduled report on the effects of divorce on children and society.
