SALON'S TV PICKS FOR
WEDNESDAY, JAN. 27, 1999
BY JOYCE MILLMAN

S P E C I A L S

The Kennedy Center Presents: A Tribute to Muddy Waters, King of the Blues (check local times, PBS) honors the bluesman, who died in 1983. Includes archival footage of Waters and performances of his songs by Bo Diddley, Koko Taylor, Keb' Mo, Buddy Guy, Robert Jr. Lockwood and others. "Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in": The Godfather, Part III (9 p.m., USA) finishes up USA's presentation of the Corleone saga. A major disappointment starring Al Pacino, Diane Keaton, Andy Garcia and Sofia Coppola.

S E R I E S

The X-Files Complete Conspiracy Marathon (8 and 11 p.m., FX) continues. Episode 31, "One Breath" (8 p.m.), finishes up the Duane Barry arc; kidnapped Scully turns up comatose and Mulder searches for answers. Significant point: Anderson rushed back to work a week after giving birth. The writers gave her a break with this episode, where she's not required to do much more than lie in bed. In Episode 39, "Colony" (11 p.m.), written by Chris Carter from a story by David Duchovny and Carter, Mulder and Scully investigate the murder of abortion doctors and find the doctors are identical alien clones, one of whom is posing as Mulder's missing sister. Significant point: The morphing alien bounty hunter makes his first appearance. On Dawson's Creek (8 p.m., WB), Dawson and Pacey go on a fishing trip with their dads, while Dawson's mom hangs with the girls for a story about teen trends. Friends try to get smack addict Dylan into detox on Beverly Hills, 90210 (8 p.m., Fox). Wrestler Hunter Hearst Helmsley becomes the new Buzz Beer spokesman on The Drew Carey Show (9 p.m., ABC). Raji and Pearce are in love with the same woman on the ever limper Lateline (9 p.m., NBC).
