SALON'S TV PICKS FOR
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 3, 1999
BY JOYCE MILLMAN

S P E C I A L S

Man! She feels like a woman! In those thigh-high boots! Country music's diva du jour sings all her plucky, poppy hits in Shania Twain's Winter Break (8 p.m., CBS), an outdoor concert from Miami with guests Elton John and the Backstreet Boys. Alas, Shania is upstaged by THE tube event of the night, Monica Lewinsky talking (and, no doubt, crying) for two hours with Barbara Walters on 20/20 (9 p.m., ABC). At last, our chance to sample the legendary Lewinsky "poise" and "wit." And if the ratings are good, she gets to replace Debbie Matenopoulos on "The View."

S E R I E S

Biography (8 p.m. EST/9 PST, A&E) profiles the Cartier jewelry clan. The romantically bruised Dawson makes a drunken scene at his 16th birthday party on Dawson's Creek (8 p.m., WB). Drew and crew finally see what goes on behind closed doors at the mysterious research lab where Lewis works on a trippy episode of The Drew Carey Show (8:30 p.m., ABC). It sounds like Fox, but it's not: The World's Most Amazing Videos (9 p.m., NBC) -- a new weekly series -- debuts with the usual natural disaster, police chase and human freak footage. Carmichael prosecutes two doctors whose patient died during routine surgery on Law & Order (10 p.m., NBC).
