S P E C I A L S

The best comic performances of the year are highlighted in the 13th annual American Comedy Awards (8 p.m., Fox). Performers and nominees include Jerry Seinfeld, Garry Shandling, David Duchovny, Tracey Ullman, Cameron Diaz and Ray Romano. Director Barry Levinson ("Rain Man," "Wag the Dog") receives a special tribute presented by Dustin Hoffman. The new TV movie Resurrection (9 p.m., ABC) stars the always interesting Dana Delany as a woman who develops healing powers after a near-death experience. This is a remake of a 1980 movie starring Ellen Burstyn.


S E R I E S

Academy Award nominee Nick Nolte ("Affliction") is profiled on Biography (8 p.m. EST/9 PST, A&E). 7th Heaven (8 p.m., WB) has a plot that's just a wee bit familiar: A university president friend of Eric's is pressured to resign after being caught in a sex scandal with a grad student. On a new episode of Everybody Loves Raymond (9 p.m., CBS), Ray and Debra tangle over respect for each other's personal space. Aaron Spelling's new action series, Rescue 77 (9 p.m., WB), about a squad of Los Angeles paramedics, debuts. The new sitcom Payne (9:30 p.m., CBS), an Americanized version of John Cleese's "Fawlty Towers," stars John Larroquette as rude innkeeper Royal Payne (groan) and JoBeth Williams as his long-suffering wife.
