Brooke fears she's pregnant on Popular (8 p.m., WB). Action (9 and 9:30 p.m., Fox) returns to the Fox schedule after being taken off during sweeps due to lack of viewer interest. In back-to-back episodes, Peter (Jay Mohr) wrestles with stress and scandal during the filming of his high-stakes action flick. ER (10 p.m., NBC) reruns an episode from near the end of the Clooney Era, in which Doug screws up in his effort to help a dying kid. The toast of Comedy Central, former Nixon speechwriter turned poker-faced comic actor Ben Stein, gets a new weekly talk show, Turn Ben Stein On (10:30 p.m., Comedy Central). Stein and canine co-host Puppy Wuppy welcome first guests Carl Reiner and Katie Wagner.

Bryant Gumbel hosts the Sports Illustrated 20th Century Sports Awards (9 p.m., CBS), honoring the greatest athletes in seven categories. Whitney Houston, Paul Simon and Garth Brooks serenade attendees Muhammad Ali, Hank Aaron, Wayne Gretzky, Tiger Woods, Peggy Fleming and others.
