Buffy the Vampire Slayer (8 p.m., WB) reruns the incredible "Hush" episode from last season. This is the one where hair-raising demons called "The Gentlemen" steal everyone's voices; the second half of the episode is rendered in silence, with the characters making clever use of pantomime, written notes, computer screens and anything else they can think of to communicate with one another. This is also the episode in which Willow and Tara do their first, um, magic together. On a rerun of Angel (9 p.m., WB), detective Kate won't believe that her ex-cop father is involved in a demonic crime ring. The Real World (10 p.m., MTV) starts a new season with seven photogenic young people living large in a New Orleans mansion. Yeah, but do they eat rats?

Specials

Drew Barrymore hosts AFI's 100 Years ... 100 Laughs (8 p.m., CBS), a countdown of the 100 funniest American films as chosen by a bunch of people who like to make lists. With comments from Steve Martin, Billy Crystal, Robin Williams (hey, wonder if "Flubber" is on the list!), Cameron Diaz and Whoopi Goldberg. TNT commemorates the opening of John Singleton's remake of "Shaft" with a Shaft Marathon (8 p.m. to 6 a.m., TNT), saluting Richard Roundtree as the original black private dick who's a sex machine to all the chicks. The lineup includes the original Shaft (8 p.m.), followed by the sequels Shaft's Big Score and Shaft in Africa, and a couple of episodes of the 1973-74 TV series. Includes comments from Singleton, Roundtree and the new Shaft, Samuel L. Jackson.
