Eligibility: Sweepstakes is offered only electronically via the Internet and only within the fifty United States. Sweepstakes is open to all natural persons who are legal residents of the United States, who have Internet access as of May 20, 1997, and are 18 years of age or older at the time of entry. Employees, officers, and directors of Sponsors, their parent companies, affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising, promotion, and fulfillment agencies, and legal advisors, their immediate family members and persons living in their same household are not eligible to participate in the Sweepstakes. Void where prohibited. All federal, state, and local laws and regulations apply. How to Enter: You may enter Sweepstakes in one of two ways: (1) by logging onto the Netscape In-Box Direct site or (2) by legibly hand-printing on a 3-by-5 card the words "Borders Sweepstakes" along with your name, address, e-mail address (if you do not have an e-mail address, print "no e-mail address"), and telephone number and mailing the entry to: Wanderlust Sweepstakes, Salon Internet, 185 Berry Street, Suite 4811, San Francisco, CA 94107. Mail-in entries may not be mechanically reproduced. Only one entry per person or e-mail address is permitted. If multiple online entries are not mechanically blocked, only the last entry received from any person will be considered. Electronic entries must be received by the Salon Internet server no later than 6:00 p.m. PDT on June 10, 1997, and mail-in entries must be postmarked by June 8, 1997, and received by June 10, 1997. All entries become the exclusive property of Sponsors, and will not be acknowledged or returned. Prizes: TERMS AND CONDITIONS Prize consists of one (1) gift certificate redeemable at any Borders Books store within the fifty states for materials equal in value to $25.00 (US funds). A total of 30 gift certificates will be dispersed. Entrants are eligible for one only during the course of this promotion. Winners must supply Social Security number upon winning and are responsible for all taxes, if any. Participants must be at least 18 years of age. Selection of Winner: Winner will be determined by a random drawing from all eligible entries, to be held each day at 6:00 p.m. at the Salon Internet offices. All decisions are final and binding. Odds of winning will be determined by the number of eligible entries received. The winner will be notified by e-mail within 24 hours of the drawing or by regular mail within 10 working days. The winner will have 14 days from notification to accept the prize by e-mail to ahughes@salonmagazine.com or by regular mail. Sponsors are not responsible for and shall not be liable for late, lost, misdirected, or unsuccessful efforts to notify winner. Winner will be required to sign and return a release of liability, affidavit of eligibility, and, where lawful, a publicity consent agreement, all within 14 days of acknowledged notification. By accepting and/or using the prize, winner agrees to the use of their names, voices, and/or likenesses for the purpose of advertising, trade, or promotion without further compensation, unless prohibited by law. If a selected winner cannot be contacted, is ineligible, fails to claim a prize, or fails to timely return the completed and executed affidavit and releases as required, the prize will be forfeited and an alternate winner will be selected. The second chance drawings will be held on or around June 20, 1997 in a random drawing from all eligible entries. Conditions: By entering, participants agree to be bound by these Official Rules and the decisions of Salon Internet, which shall be final. Sponsors, agents and representatives of Sponsors, their parent companies, affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising, promotion, and fulfillment agencies, and legal advisors, are not responsible for and shall not be liable for: (i) late, lost, delayed, damaged, misdirected, incomplete, illegible, unintelligible, or postage-due entries; (ii) telephone, electronic, hardware or software program, network, Internet, or computer malfunctions, failures, or difficulties of any kind; (iii) failed, incomplete, garbled, or delayed computer transmissions; (iv) any condition caused by events beyond the control of the Sponsors that may cause the Sweepstakes to be disrupted or corrupted; (v) any injuries, losses, or damages of any kind arising in connection with or as a result of the prize, or acceptance, possession, or use of the prize, or from participation in the Sweepstakes; or (iv) any printing or typographical errors in any materials associated with the Sweepstakes. Salon Internet reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to suspend or cancel this Sweepstakes at any time if a computer virus, bug, or other technical problem corrupts the administration, security, or proper play of the Sweepstakes. Borders Books is indemnified from any liability related to or resulting from the authorization and/or registration necessary in each and every state that this sweepstakes will be conducted in. By participating in the Sweepstakes, participants agree to release and hold Sponsors and the employees, officers, directors, shareholders, agents, representatives of Sponsors, their parent companies, affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising, promotion, and fulfillment agencies, and legal advisors, harmless from any and all losses, damages, rights, claims and actions of any kind in connection with the Sweepstakes or resulting from acceptance, possession, or use of any prize, including without limitation, personal injury, death, and property damage, and claims based on publicity rights, defamation, or invasion of privacy.
