I have never seen a major movie of this caliber endeavor to explain something as deep and profound (and obscure) as Tibetan Buddhism. Brad Pitt's acting was solid and convincing. Roger Ebert said the movie made you want to know more about the young Dalai Lama, which it does. The few scenes of violence were not senseless, but showed the callousness of the Chinese army while invading Tibet. It also showed by contrast how peace-loving the Tibetans were. If the movie was a half hour longer it could have detailed more about the young Dalai Lama and Buddhist philosophy. --Scott Palczak
