_______________ON A MINISKIRT AND A SOUNDBITE BY ERIC ALTERMAN (10/21/97)
I loved what you said and agree with you completely. I think she has got to be one of the most annoying, mean-spirited people I have ever seen on television, and it is a sad commentary on the media that she is rewarded for it so handsomely.

-- Susan Cox

Laura Ingraham is a bimbo and an airhead? I do not know Laura personally, but I fail to see how a person who graduated Dartmouth University, was an editor of the Dartmouth Review, completed law school, passed the bar exam, clerked for a Supreme Court Justice and worked for the Skadden firm could be a bimbo or an airhead -- or maybe I'm just naive.

Alterman's denunciation seems to be the result of his frustration at not being able to get her in the sack, and his enormous jealousy and outrage over seeing a "pretty" female, whom he perceives to be his intellectual inferior, succeed in ways he could only dream about.

The real irony here is that Alterman and Ingraham are both examples of the breed of "journalists" who have emerged since the 1970s -- far from being independent observers and critics of government, they are merely sycophantic toadies of one part or other of the established political and business elites. Alterman's beef is simply that Ingraham is better equipped for and more successful at ingratiating herself with those in power than he is.

I can't wait to read the stinging rebuttal by Ingraham or one of her surrogates. This debate will have absolutely no substantive value, but watching these two courtiers to power engage in a verbal hair-pulling contest will, if nothing else, be amusing.
