_______________CLINTON'S REAL CRIME BY MOLLIE DICKENSON (12/14/98)

I enjoyed reading Mollie Dickenson's article on perjury. There was only one thing I think her article is missing, and that is the strange definition of sex that was given in the Paula Jones case. Jones' lawyers were not incompetent in their definition; they had a good reason to define it this way. The very sex act they already knew he was having (they knew from Linda Tripp) is the very sex act they purposely left out of their definition because they wanted him to deny it. Starr's team wanted the president to deny sex with Monica Lewinsky so they could set the perjury trap. If they had oral sex in their definition, they didn't want to take the chance that the president might admit to it because it would ruin their plan, their trap. Ken Starr violated the law when his office sent Tripp to the Jones attorneys with the list of questions and strategy for the president's deposition. This is precisely why Starr continues to deny knowing Tripp went to the Jones attorneys within hours of the president's deposition. There is no mistake, they set this trap with illegally obtained 6E information. Kenneth Starr is the real criminal here.

I have just read the trash that Mollie Dickenson wrote in "Clinton's real crime." The president's testimony was false. It was perjurious because it was material to the case and there is corroborated proof of his intent to lie. The evidence exists in the details of the referral to Congress. In just one instance, Clinton's secretary, Betty Currie, knew there were gifts that Lewinsky had in her possession. How did she know about the Lewinsky gifts if Clinton didn't tell her about them? She decided to go collect them. (How did Currie determine to do this if Clinton didn't tell her to do it?) She then hid them under her bed in her home! Clinton's testimony? He couldn't recall, or he relied on his statement. Yeah, right! Impeach him, then convict him in the Senate and get him out of there! If he was a real man, he would have resigned rather than disgrace the country for this long, dark period. Mollie Dickenson wrote the Democratic party line/lie.

_______________OFF THE CLIFF? BY HARRY JAFFE (12/14/98)

Now the true desire of the right-wingers has reared its ugly head: They want President Clinton to resign just as President Nixon did. It's payback pure and simple.

The House Republicans are prepared to stage a trial in the Senate, knowing they won't win if it comes to a vote. What they are hoping is that they can convince Clinton to spare us all the ugly spectacle by falling on his sword.

I'm convinced this is what Newt and his henchmen have had in mind all along. They hate Clinton in much the same over-the-top way many hated Nixon in 1974. Apparently this rabid group of congressmen want to get Clinton so much they don't care what this bizarre game of "chicken" does to the nation. Let's hope the voters won't forget this nasty episode and the lesson it offers: Having the majority in Congress matters.

_______________IMAGINARY FRIEND BY ANDREA COOPER (12/09/98)

I just finished reading "Imaginary Friend" by Andrea Cooper and it has left me with a very unsettled feeling. Cooper gives the impression that once a person becomes mentally ill, life is over. Has she never heard of psychiatric medicine? Why does she think there is no hope? After reading her article, a person gets the feeling that if they should become mentally ill, they might as well just kill themselves because it is that horrible. My father-in-law was diagnosed with a mental illness and after receiving medication and therapy, leads a normal happy life. I understand that Cooper is distraught over the possibility that the mental illness in her family may be passed on to her or her daughter, but let's also realize that, should that be the case, there is hope, and there is help.

_______________THE SHIPPING NUDES BY DAVID STEINBERG (12/10/98)

After reading the Urge article on shipping companies' censorious shipping restrictions, I immediately popped over to Amazon.com to check out who does its shipping: the U.S. Postal Service and DHL. Oh, and Salon's preferred bookseller, Barnes and Noble? The U.S. Postal Service and UPS.

UPS and DHL are within their rights. However, they do not appear to be the sort of partners with whom a bookseller or a magazine that support freedom of expression should associate themselves.
