More on Miss Landmine 2008

Is it a candid campaign or inspired meta-activism?

Tracy Clark-Flory

Nov. 27, 2007 | Last week, I argued that there was more, whether intended or not, to Miss Landmine Angola 2008 than challenging able-bodied beauty norms. Most of you disagreed!

I don't find the project objectionable so much as intentionally thought-provoking -- it was, after all, created by a Norwegian artist, not a human rights activist. Maybe it's inspired meta-activism. Maybe it's intended as an inkblot test of sorts, providing a political or philosophical evaluation of its viewer. Or maybe it's exactly what it says it is. Either way, it's a provocative piece of art open to innumerable interpretations. It's also the topic of my clip for Current TV.
