The Tuesday bombshell that Al Gore had split with wife of 40 years Tipper Gore left many understandably distressed. But also distressing was the photo news outlets worldwide ran along with the story: The vice-president laying a big, long, wet one on his wife at the 2000 Democratic National Convention. Is there anyone who doesn't remember that whopping display of PDA? Not even the season finale of "Lost" elicited so many uncomfortable groans. 

But when it comes to awkward smooches, our culture has endured far worse. Let's take a look at the guilty parties.
