E T C . Is Dave going soft? David Letterman showed a heretofore unheralded
kid-friendly side on May 24 when he treated 100 underprivileged St. Louis
youngsters to a day at the Motorola 300 Indy-car race. Letterman, who is
co-owner of Bobby Rahal's racing team, contributed grandstand seats, lunch,
a pit tour and souvenir T-shirts to the St. Louis Dreams for Youth
foundation. No word on whether the kids also got driving lessons from Uncle
Dave, who has clocked some impressive speeds on the New York-to-Connecticut
highway circuit.
