When designer Tom Ford began planning Vanity Fair's Hollywood issue, according to ABC News, he asked himself, "What am I tired of seeing?"

Apparently, the answer was clothes -- at least as far as beautiful young Hollywood actresses go. For the cover of the issue, which hits stands today in New York and Los Angeles, Annie Leibovitz photographed Keira Knightley and Scarlett Johansson in the nude alongside a fully clothed Ford. As the issue's art director, Ford had originally wanted the cover to feature Knightley and Johansson along with actress Rachel McAdams, but McAdams backed out at the last minute. Apparently just two naked women was unacceptable, so Leibovitz subbed in Ford as a last resort.

"Three girls in a bed is a bedful of girls, but two girls in a bed are lesbians," Ford explains. (Ford himself is openly gay, but apparently sees suggested homosexuality as a Hollywood no-no.)

Continuing the fleshy theme, the magazine also features a portrait of George Clooney, posing as a director amid a set full of underwear-clad women.

Ford told ABC News, "It just seemed like every woman's dream, so that's what we did." Huh? It's every woman's dream to wander around a film set in her skivvies, surrounded by other scantily clad women? Sounds like Ford, who incorporated porn stars in recent ads for his sunglasses collection, has watched one too many X-rated films.

A number of Hollywood actors also posed for the issue, but no word yet whether they were also asked to bare all. Interesting that no matter their level of fame or success -- Knightley received a best-actress Oscar nomination for "Pride and Prejudice," while Johansson received a Golden Globes supporting-actress nomination for "Match Point" -- it's women who still face pressure to strip off their clothes.
