Quote of the day

In a recent speech, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei defended forcing women to veil and attacked the West for treating women like a product to be bought and sold. I hate to get all stuffy and academic on you, but I'm chewing over how Khamenei's comments relate to yesterday's New York Times article about the moral instinct and different cultural treatments of five universal moral themes (purity, authority, community, fairness and harm). But, jump in with your thoughts, academic or not:

"In [the West's] sensationalism concerning women's affairs, they blame us by saying: You have made hijab compulsory. They themselves have made lack of hijab compulsory ... In effect, they have been treating women like a commodity, like another of their products. If you were to look at the magazines, which are published in the West, you would see that they advertise a commodity for sale next to the naked picture of a woman. Can you imagine a bigger insult to women?"

News flash: Masculinity is about more than sex
A study suggests that stereotypes about men's view of masculinity are wrong.
Quote of the day
Sen. Barbara Boxer on Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.
What's that smell?
Scented candles for men will bring the fragrance of urinal cakes into your home at last.
Should Obama have picked Hillary?
Did the GOP just co-opt the Democrats' chance at making history? Sarah Palin, a conservative, antiabortion, pro-NRA Republican may just be the first woman in the White House.
