Beautiful new home comes with free … wife?

I love Craigslist. I use it for the regular stuff: apartment rentals and buying nice furniture on the cheap. Once, my boyfriend even bought 750 vinyl LPs for a cool $75 (a mixed blessing, to be sure). Everyone knows Craiglist is the place to go whether you’re trolling for a new bike or anonymous sex. But did you know that, thanks to the magic of Craigslist (and eBay), you can purchase your dream home and a lovely wife at the same time?

That’s right, boys, get out your credit cards because Devon Traboscia, a buxom real estate agent and “European Loving Lady,” is selling her Palm Beach Gardens home — with her in it. “If you want to live the never ending dream and experience the real love, life and the romance you have always felt was a fairytale then this is the vibrant outstanding woman of your dreams!” Traboscia writes.

Now, I know there are all kinds of things wrong with this from a feminist perspective. Woman as commodity? Check. Use of retrograde fairy-tale imagery to sell said commodity? Check. Picture of said woman in skimpy clothing, puffing out her rack? Check. Still, I think one Salon staffer’s comment best expresses the deeper cultural meaning of what Traboscia’s doing: “The economy’s really gone to shit, hasn’t it?”
