Fashion tips for Michelle Obama

"The Daily Show" offers some unconventional suggestions to spice up the first lady's wardrobe.

The hilarious Kristen Schaal (of "Flight of the Conchords" and, ever too briefly, "Mad Men") made another appearance on "The Daily Show" last night as Senior Women's Issues Commentator. Schaal was there to talk about the proper role of presidential spouses, which she summarized thusly: "Traditionally the first lady is a bright, articulate, professional woman who has to put all that aside for eight years to play hostess." The accompanying video then cuts to a disturbingly "Stepford Wives" -like clip of Jackie Kennedy, looking as though she might stab herself repeatedly with a butter knife.

The fuss and the furor surrounding Michelle Obama's fashion and bare arms have been so overblown that it does seem the only proper response is satire. And so Schaal offers a few new outfits for the first lady, managing a nice jab at both Proposition 8 and Nadya Suleman while she's at it with her suggested Octomom bjorn: "In California, you're an unfit parent if you're gay, but not if you're straight, unemployed, live with your parents and have an Angelina Jolie fetish."

For those who missed it last night, enjoy.
