I'm not disturbed by the tense of the verb, as I think the White House was.
I think it was correct to say, "We came in peace for all mankind," instead
of "We come in peace."
I ... think you might want to be more specific about the date; it's
a shame it doesn't say "20 July 1969." It's just "July." And of course, I
was known to my family -- and to everyone else I knew -- as "Buzz." Somehow,
though, I felt that the formality of the first Moon landing required that
"Edwin," my officially registered name, be inscribed. I regret that now. I
would change it to "Buzz."
But I think the plaque does give the message that was significant in those
days: that this trip was initiated by the Cold War -- but we came in peace to
the surface of Moon.
