Pawlenty will sign Franken election certificate

The Minnesota governor says he'll help seat the Senate's newest Democrat

The last obstacle remaining to Al Franken's being sworn in as the Senate's newest member has been cleared. Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, whose decision was made much easier by former Sen. Norm Coleman's concession, says he will sign a certificate declaring Franken the winner of November's election.

"In light of [the Minnesota Supreme Court's] decision and Senator Coleman’s announcement that he will not be pursuing an appeal, I will be signing the election certificate today as directed by the court and applicable law," Pawlenty said in a statement. “I would like to thank Senator Coleman for his service ... I also want to congratulate Al Franken and wish him well as he serves the people of Minnesota.”
