Someone cue "Eye of the Tiger" -- Attorney General Alberto Gonzales is training for the fight of his life.

The Washington Post reports today that the embattled attorney general is spending much of his time preparing for the testimony he'll deliver in two sessions later this month, training and calling Republicans for support. "Gonzales and his aides," the Post says, are taking the testimony "as seriously as if it were a confirmation proceeding for a Supreme Court or a Cabinet appointment."

Acting as Gonzales' very own Mickey are Timothy E. Flanigan, a former Gonzales aide who was once nominated to be deputy attorney general (a nomination that was later withdrawn after questions arose about Flanigan's dealings with disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff), and Ed Gillespie, who once ran the Republican National Committee.
