Oct. 16, 1999 | From Mariah to Helena and back, it was another week of loopiness, lewdness, celebrity weirdness and the first presidential candidate endorsement to come from Abe Lincoln in, well, quite a long time.

MONDAY: "I am diva, hear me mewl"

"I should probably be in therapy at least two hours a day," Mariah Carey confesses in an upcoming Glamour magazine interview. She's joking, but maybe she shouldn't be ... "The nature of my life, the nature of what I do, is divadom, it really is. But, you know, the way people are using the word these days, anybody who has one record is suddenly a diva. I mean, give me a break ... You have to earn that title."

Mmm-hmm. Well, Mariah, our time's up for today ...

Tuesday: "I want your set"

Feeling that his performance wasn't up to snuff, NetAid showman George Michael blocked the BBC from airing footage of his appearance at the super-hyped charity concert last weekend. Michael's people cited technical difficulties with the singer's mike, but the BBC countered that it was "completely satisfied" with the segment and was "disappointed" that they were not allowed to use it. Said one BBC spokesperson of Michael's bait-and-switch move, "We were very annoyed by this."

Wednesday: "Deluge of denial"

I'd like to make one thing perfectly clear. I have not had sexual relations with that royal, Prince William. Apparently, I'm not alone. Party gal Tara Palmer-Tomkinson has set off royal alarms by tattling to the Tatler that she and 17-year-old Wills haven't done the nasty.

Thursday: "Corset's end"

Last week it was Kate Winslet doffing her constricting underthings. Now, Helena Bonham Carter is cutting loose. "No matter how many modern parts I do, people still refer to me as Mrs. Costume Drama," complains cinched-waist and heaving-bosom expert Bonham Carter in Los Angeles magazine. "It would be nice to really shed the corsets."

Friday: "Four score and seven votes ... tops"

Democratic presidential hopeful Dr. Heather Harder claims she's been endorsed by none other than honest Abe Lincoln. Harder, who calls herself the "higher-consciousness candidate" and boasts of scoring 30,000 votes in Texas in the 1996 presidential election, has also gotten extra-sensory campaign advice from FDR, JFK and Thomas Jefferson, but maintains she doesn't consider their counsel to be written in stone. "Just because you're dead doesn't make you smarter," she has said.
