August 12, 1999 | NEW YORK -- Anthony Radziwill, a television executive and cousin of the late John F. Kennedy Jr., died of cancer Tuesday, one week after his 40th birthday.

The son of Lee Bouvier Radziwill Ross -- sister to Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis -- and Prince Stanislas Radziwill, died Tuesday at New York Hospital after a 10-year illness, said a statement from Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass.

Radziwill had a steadfast friendship with first cousin John F. Kennedy Jr. When Kennedy married Carolyn Bessette in 1996, Radziwill was best man at the clandestine wedding ceremony in Georgia.

Radziwill grew up in England, where his parents lived at the time. In 1982, he received a bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism from Boston University and started his career as an associate producer for NBC Sports, doing Emmy-award winning work during the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul.

He joined ABC News as a producer for "Prime Time Live" in 1989.

In 1990, Radziwill won television's prestigious Peabody Award for an investigation of new Nazism in the United States. He later won two more Emmys.

Radziwill is survived by his wife, Carole, mother, stepfather Herbert Ross, and sister Anna Christina Radziwill.
