War Room

It's showtime

Bill Clinton upstage the Democratic nominee? Never.

New York keeps the speculation going about when Bill Clinton's memoirs will hit the shelves. Conventional wisdom says that a publish date timed between the Democratic convention in July and the November election could hurt John Kerry because Clinton hogs the spotlight from anyone he shares the stage with. But New York mag, citing a "publishing source" says Clinton's tell-all will be ready in August, instead of June as once planned. Clinton says he's writing as fast as he can.

In other Clinton news, New York reports that the former president has agreed to speak at a MoveOn.org benefit on May 11 at the Apollo Theater.

[Update: Kerry's Clinton crisis seems to be averted. Sonny Mehta, president and editor-in-chief of Alfred A. Knopf, said today that "My Life" would be published in late June, weeks before the Democratic convention. "It is the fullest and most nuanced account of a presidency ever written, and one of the most revealing and remarkable memoirs I have ever had the honor of publishing ... He talks with candor about his successes, as well as his setbacks, looking at both his career in public service and his life," Mehta said. ]
