Quote of the day

How much is a dead brother worth?

Iraqi Sadoon Awad explains why he rejected an offer of $10,000 from U.S. troops in compensation for the death of his brother, Hasham Ibrahim Awad, a 54-year-old disabled veteran of Iraq's war with Iran in the '80s, who was killed last April near the town of Hamdaniya; seven U.S. Marines and a Navy medical corpsman have just been charged with Awad's murder:

"I told them, 'I don't need money.' I told them, 'The truth is that you took my brother, you tortured him, and you killed him, although he was disabled and old.'"
