Poll: Majority of Iraqis approve of attacks on U.S. troops

From the "Greeted as Liberators" Department comes news that 61 percent of Iraqis now approve of attacks on U.S. and coalition forces in their country.

The number -- the result of a new poll just released by the University of Maryland's Program on International Policy Attitudes -- represents a dramatic increase in support for attacks. When PIPA last asked the question in January, only 47 percent of its Iraqi respondents said they approved of attacks on U.S.-led troops.

In another sign of progress, nearly 80 percent of Iraqis say the U.S. presence in Iraq provokes more violence than it prevents. More than 60 percent say they want their government to ask the United States to leave within a year.
