Reynolds' chief of staff resigns, blames Democrats

Kirk Fordham has just resigned as chief of staff to National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Tom Reynolds. As we discussed earlier today, Fordham previously worked as chief of staff for Rep. Mark Foley and tried to cut a deal with ABC last week that would have kept Foley's explicit IM messages out of public view.

Fordham has insisted that he was simply trying to spare his "boss" from public humiliation. In a statement issued today, he said he's resigning because "Democrats" are determined to make him an issue in Reynolds' reelection campaign -- and that he isn't going to let them.

Of course, it's not just Democrats who have an interest in the Foley case. As the Associated Press reports, the FBI has now told House officials to "preserve all records" related to the GOP congressman's communications with current and former pages.
