An advisor to Mark Warner has confirmed that the former Virginia governor has decided against running for the presidency in 2008. "This wasn't the right time in his life. He would have to put everything else on the backburner in order to run for president and do it right, and he wants a real life," Jim Margolis tells the Associated Press.
Margolis says that Warner is "not ruling out running for political office in the future." The future may not be that far off. A moderate red-state governor could prove an attractive candidate for the second spot on the Democrats' 2008 ticket, especially if he hasn't spent a year or two in the meantime beating up on -- and being beaten by -- whoever winds up being the party's presidential nominee.
