Lieberman on the lessons of 2006

Some things never change.

Joe Lieberman got a warm welcome Tuesday from Democratic senators who suddenly find they need to keep him in their good graces if they want to hold on to their 51-49 majority. Lieberman joined his Democratic colleagues for lunch at the Capitol, and Nebraska Sen. Ben Nelson tells the Hartford Courant that Harry Reid's kind words about the "independent Democrat" from Connecticut were greeted with "cheering and whistles" from the assembled crowd.

"Nothing has changed with Sen. Lieberman," Nelson said. "It was just like the old days."

That much seems true. As CNN reports, Lieberman warned his colleagues that they should heed the lessons of last week's election: "Be willing to compromise" with Republicans.
