Looking back, maybe the farewell post on Marshall Wittmann's "Bull Moose" blog wasn't as cryptic as he made it sound, leading as it did with a paean to Sen. Joe Lieberman:

"The great and grand political development of the past year has been the triumph of Independent - Democrat Senator Joe Lieberman," Wittmann wrote. "Joe has bravely revived the great tradition of Scoop Jackson that is so critically needed at this time of international challenge and crisis. The Moose is leaving the blogosphere with the deep satisfaction that in a small way he was part of this historic and monumental victory for the vital center."

Wittmann, known around the liberal blogosphere as "the Bullshit Moose" for his frequent denunciations of liberals and promotion of centrists like Lieberman, will now be paid for such tributes: Lieberman has just announced that Wittmann will be his new communications director.

In Wittmann, Lieberman gets someone with a motley past -- a former Republican, Wittmann has worked for the Christian Coalition, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., and two right-leaning think tanks, the Heritage Foundation and the Hudson Institute. He has also worked for the conservative Democratic Leadership Council.
