Regional stability, the Bush administration way
The U.S. Navy has just begun what the Associated Press is calling its "largest demonstration of force in the Persian Gulf since the 2003 invasion of Iraq," with 10,000 U.S. troops, 100 warplanes, two aircraft carriers and a slew of other ships launching simulated attacks on enemy ships and submarines.
Should Iran see the massive war simulation as some kind of threat? U.S. Navy Cmdr. Kevin Aandahl says no. "What it should be seen as by Iran or anyone else is that it's for regional stability and security," he tells the AP. "These ships are just another demonstration of that. If there's a destabilizing effect, it's Iran's behavior."
