The author of the Hillary Clinton "1984" video finally gives an interview -- to YouTube. Video

Ever since Phil de Vellis was revealed as the author of the Hillary Clinton "1984" video on YouTube, reporters have been angling for an interview. But de Vellis has so far refused to grant one. He has been lying low, waiting for the scandal to blow over a bit, perhaps preparing his next move.

Today, the 1984 auteur finally broke his media blackout. Where? YouTube of course. He posted an interview with Steve Grove, YouTube's political editor. It's not a groundbreaking interview. He talks about America's "long tradition of protected anonymous speech" and the importance of timing for a successful viral video. But he has proved his point once again. Creative citizens with some computer savvy no longer need reporters to get their message out. Just do it well and do it yourself.
