It's hard work, or maybe it isn't
In an interview that aired on the "Today" show this morning, Laura Bush said that when it comes to the pain of watching the war in Iraq, "no one suffers more than" she and the president do.
"I hope [the American people] do know the burden of worry that's on his shoulders, every single day, for our troops," the first lady said of her husband. "I think they do. I think if they don't, they're not seeing what the real responsibilities of our president are."
Case in point: George W. Bush himself.
In an interview with Fox's Brit Hume in December, Bush said the "load" he carries as president is "not heavy." He explained: "Look, somebody said to me, 'Prove it.' I said, 'You can't prove it. All I can tell you is I feel it.' And it's a remarkable country when millions pray for me and Laura. So therefore I am able to say to people that this is a joyful experience, not a painful experience."
