Giuliani pulls a Cheney
In an interview with the Politico's Roger Simon, Rudy Giuliani warns that Americans will be putting themselves at risk of another 9/11 if they put a Democrat in the White House next year.
"If any Republican is elected president -- and I think, obviously, I would be the best at this -- we will remain on offense and will anticipate what [the terrorists] will do and try to stop them before they do it," Giuliani said.
"America's Mayor" said that the United States will win the war against terrorists no matter who takes the White House in 2008, but he said that we'll "have more losses and it will go on longer" with a Democrat in charge. "I listen a little to the Democrats and if one of them gets elected, we are going on defense," he said. "We will wave the white flag on Iraq. We will cut back on the Patriot Act, electronic surveillance, interrogation and we will be back to our pre-Sept. 11 attitude of defense."
If it all sounds familiar, that's because it is. In the run-up to the 2004 presidential election, Dick Cheney -- second in command in "our pre-Sept. 11 attitude of defense" -- said that electing John Kerry would expose Americans to "the danger" that we'll be "hit again ... in a way that will be devastating from the standpoint of the United States."
