It’s great to win the Ames straw poll in Iowa, but a new Quinnipiac University poll shows just how far Mitt Romney still has to go everywhere else. Fifty-five percent of the voters polled said they don’t know enough about Romney to say whether they have either a “favorable” or an “unfavorable” opinion of him.

Everybody has an opinion about Hillary Clinton — well, at least 91 percent of us do — and it’s getting a tiny bit more favorable. “Only” 43 percent of the poll’s respondents have an “unfavorable” view of Clinton this time around, which is down by a couple of ticks from the last three times Quinnipiac asked the question.

We put the “only” bit in quotation marks because Clinton’s “unfavorable” number is still higher than any other major candidate’s. The good news for Clinton: In potential 2008 head-to-head matchups, she now leads Rudy Giuliani by 46-43 percent and Fred Thompson and John McCain by more.
