Craig to address guilty plea in Boise

With his political future in doubt, GOP Sen. Larry Craig will make a public statement in Boise, Idaho, at 2:30 p.m. local time.

With the Senate in the final days of its August vacation, Craig's Republican colleagues aren't exactly going out of their way to make themselves available for comment about his plight today. On MSNBC earlier today, Kansas Sen. Sam Brownback stated the obvious: The news about Craig is "not good." "There is a guilty plea involved in this," he said, "but I think we ought to look and see what the facts actually are."

An ethics complaint filed by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington will give Brownback and his colleagues the opportunity to do that -- if they're so inclined, and if Craig is still around.

"This election is our chance ... to keep the American promise alive"
