Gonzales investigations: Not done yet

The attorney general may be leaving, but the Justice Department's inspector general hasn't forgotten him.

Alberto Gonzales may be leaving, but that hasn't made all his problems go away.

In a letter sent today to Senate Judiciary Committee chairman Patrick Leahy, Justice Department Inspector General Glenn Fine says "ongoing investigations" by his office and the department's Office of Professional Responsibility will "assess" whether several statements Gonzales made to Leahy's committee were "intentionally false, misleading or inappropriate."

The subject areas of the testimony in question: the "Terrorist Surveillance Program," national security letters, the firing of U.S. attorneys last year and whether Gonzales tried to synchronize stories about the firings with former aide Monica Goodling.
