In a round-table discussion Thursday with foreign journalists, George W. Bush said of 9/11: "People murdered Americans to achieve a political objective. There's a debate in our country whether that's true or not. I believe it's absolutely fundamentally true, because I'm listening to what the enemy says, the enemy of freedom, what they're saying."
The follow-up question that wasn't asked: Is there anyone in America -- anyone in the world -- who doesn't think that the attacks of 9/11 were meant to "achieve a political objective"?
And if there isn't, what exactly was the president trying to say?
