Ohio congressman found dead in Washington

Ohio GOP Rep. Paul Gillmor was found dead in his Washington apartment this morning by staffers concerned when he didn’t show up for work.

Gillmor has been a staunch defender of the president’s war in Iraq. After he voted earlier this year to uphold Bush’s veto of legislation that tied supplemental funding for the war to a timeline for ending it, Gillmor attacked Democrats for trying to “prove to the liberal wing of their party that they had a plan for retreat on the Global War on Terror.”

Gillmor won reelection over Democrat Robin Weirauch by a margin of 57 percent to 43 percent in November. Republicans will now have to defend Gillmor’s seat in a special election.
