In an NBC News/Wall Street Journal survey taken this month, 55 percent of Americans said that, when it comes to Iraq, "the most responsible thing" the United States can do is "find a way to withdraw most of our troops" by the beginning of 2009.
So what does White House press secretary Dana Perino have to say about a Democratic plan that would call for the withdrawal of most U.S. troops from Iraq by the end of 2008?
"This is for political posturing and to appease radical groups."
A reporter asked Perino today whether by "radical groups" she meant "MoveOn, etc.," or rather "the large numbers of Americans who tell interviewers and pollsters that they would like troops home as soon as possible."
Perino's response: "I'm talking about Moveon.org and Code Pink, in particular."
Perino said that U.S. troops are "fulfilling their mission in spectacular fashion" and that "pulling the rug out from under our troops now is the height of irresponsibility." What about the 55 percent of Americans who think the troops have done what they can and that it's time to bring them home? Perino didn't say.
