Reid, Pelosi get entangled in the presidential race

Evidently, Harry Reid seems convinced Democrats will have a presidential candidate in the very near future.

Last week, the Senate majority leader gave a short, cryptic and highly suggestive interview to the Las Vegas Review-Journal's Molly Ball. Here's the exchange, courtesy of Marc Ambinder’s blog:

Question: Do you still think the Democratic race can be resolved before the convention?
Reid: Easy.
Q: How is that?
Reid: It will be done.
Q: It just will?
Reid: Yep.
Q: Magically?
Reid: No, it will be done. I had a conversation with Governor Dean (Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean) today. Things are being done.

However, if one of the "things" Reid is referencing happen to be encouraging the party's superdelegates to support the pledged delegate count winner, he may soon receive a letter of admonishment similar to the one House Speaker Nancy Pelosi got. Pelosi -- who remains officially neutral about the race -- has made remarks that seemed to support Barack Obama's campaign's position on superdelegates, and these were the subject of the missive. The letter, sent by 20 of Hillary Clinton's wealthiest fundraisers and donors (Talking Points Memo's Greg Sargent has posted the full letter here), criticizes Pelosi for essentially wanting to disenfranchise "millions of Democratic voters [who] have not yet had a chance to cast their votes." As Sargent points out, the letter also contains a not-so-subtle reminder of how thoroughly these donors have supported the Democratic Party.

In response, Obama spokesman Bill Burton said, "This letter is inappropriate and we hope the Clinton campaign will reject the insinuation contained in it. Regardless of the outcome of the nomination fight, Senator Obama will continue to urge his supporters to assist Speaker Pelosi in her efforts to maintain and build a working majority in the House of Representatives."
