This is my latest video for our partners at Current. In it, I discuss a major scandal for Cindy McCain, the wife of presumptive Republican nominee John McCain: She may have plagiarized a cookie recipe.

Obviously, I'm kidding about the major scandal part. First, I'm inclined to give her the benefit of the doubt here. I'm not ashamed to admit that my family's recipe for chocolate chip cookies comes from the back of a bag of Tollhouse chocolate chips. And the cookies are delicious. (The rules of decorum forbid me from giving away the family brownie recipe, but let's just say it's not any more respectable.) More than that, though, what I wonder -- as I say in the video -- is why anyone still bothers to ask potential first ladies for recipes? Yes, the magazine involved did ask Bill Clinton for his cookie recipe, but that doesn't make the fundamental idea involved any less sexist. It's an antiquated custom, one that probably shouldn't be kept alive.
